Emergency Medical Technician (Basic [EMT-B])
EMTs take part in rendering medical aid to those in need. You will learn basic knowledge and skills needed to perform basic life support functions, under the direct supervision. Tasks will include: personal protection, basic medical terminology, tools and supplies, triage, basic anatomy and physiology, to more advanced subjects such as medications and protocols for the county.
Candidates will undergo a three and a half month program, put on by the Thurston County Medic One. Upon completion of the program, those who graduate will be qualified as a State Emergency Medical Technician, with certified card for practice.

Can be obtained while going through class or just prior to- Successful completion of the AHA (American Heart Association) Health care Provider course.
- Copy of your immunization records showing:
- TD (tetanus and Diphtheria) within last 10 years
- Tuberculosis Testing (TB skin test or chest x-ray) within last 12 months
- Hepatitis B series (have at least started series or have titer proving immunity)
- MMR (measles/ mumps/ rubella) You must have proof of immunization or titer indicating immunity
